==== Kalen and Wakua

DolphinCraft Hall - Training Beach

The training beach has been set into a secluded ocean cove well away from the shipping lanes running to and from Rubicon River Hold. The beachfront is long with shaggy softwoods and waving palms scattered over the outskirts, gradually giving way to a pristine expanse of white sands. Several small wooden open air classrooms are built on the inland side of the beach. A single long pier reaches into the depths with a large dolphin bell set prominently at the end. Most of the cove has been dredged deep to allow plenty of room for the pods coming in and out, but a section has been left shallow for swimming and teaching. A well-worn path of beach sand leads to the courtyard in the southeast.

It is mid-morning, and it is an active one. It is diving day, and not just look pretty diving but diving with air tanks. Standing on the dock is Kalen in his wet suit and before him are four apprentices who are dressed in their own wet suits. "Ok here is the drill, you go down you walk across the bottom to the marker you slowly go up, if you start rising to fast Atlas here will push you back down. Can any of you tell me why you don't rise to fast?" he asks looking around.

Kalen has the slightest hints of a smile as he says "The newbie, is going to answer not any of you that have been here longer? Same, alright apprentice Wakua teach me something?" he folds his arms over his chest and watches the others shuffle nervously.

Wakua ignores the looks she's getting and she takes a deep breath before she answers. She clears her throat, "You don't want to rise too fast because the nitrogen in your bloodstream will form bubbles giving you what's called the bends which can kill you. You'd have to go into a special decompression tank where the pressure will be lowered and then slowly raised."

Kalen nods and grins to the others "and guess what kiddies, there is only a few of them around. We don’t have the resources or the time to be fixing you rookies. So learn it right and learn it smart. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast you’re not in a race. Now gear up and get in the water" he will turn to the side and whistle for the large dolphin to descend below the surf to keep an eye out.

Wakua doesn't look at the other apprentices as she goes to get her gear on. She double checks everything, to make sure her straps are on correctly and the amount of air she has is right. She looks over everything and she's the last one in line to go out. She shifts the tank on her back as she goes to wait her turn.

Kalen grins and stands at the front of the like he loves, this part of his job as he says "remember the sea is a very tricky place, she will take hold of you and not want to let you go. She will snatch you and toss you. we train like we go out all of you want to be search and rescue then we work twice the hours with half the sleep and we expect everything" he pushes the first two students into the water much to there cries of surprise the third jumps in all by himself.

Wakua moves after the third one and she jumps in by herself. She lets herself sink slowly down and she keeps an eye on the other three so that she can signal to Kalen is anything wrong and so they don't hurt her. She breathes as she normal would as she looks around to see if there are any surprises waiting for them down here

Atlas swims down into the murky depths caused by the reason storms, visibility is low right now as the apprentices can only see in front of their face about five feet. He will click and whistle then surface to report to Kalen. The Journeyman is on the little dock eating a red fruit and watching, because this is great. The first boy rights himself and seems to get control before slowly starting the walk towards the buoy. The other two are slower as they move on will trip because walking with weights on the sea bed is hard!

Wakua takes it slow and steady to start as she moves forwards. She keeps her hands out in front of her as she looks from side to side as she goes. She tries to do her best to keep track of where Atlas is, but it's hard in the murky depth. She tries to keep herself aligned with the bouy as she makes her way towards it.

The water will brush against Wakua as Atlas swims by her and the others letting them run there fingers long his side. You are not alone, the pod is there for you. With no spoken word or signal the boy in the front will stop and wait for the others to catch up then reach out his hand to hold on to the on next to him, the other two will do the same and hold out a hand to Wakua as well..

Wakua feels Atlas as he swims by her fingers asnd she goes towards the other apprentices. She goes to take the outstretched hand although she was not too far from the bouy herself.

Atlas will float over to the buoy and wait there for the group to arrive. And as one they do, one pod one group each helping the other if needs be till they are there and together they will touch the buoy. then the first will start to ascend to the surface, the other will follow suit slowly Atlas only has to drag the third one down once as he almost looses his weight belt.

Wakua watches the others go up and then she starts to ascend slowly as well. She takes it slow and easy as she rises up out of the water. She continues to look around to make sure she doesn't get caught on anything.

But she does, because the water is so clouded and murky Kalen will swim up in front of her with just his dive mask and wet suit nothing else no air tanks so he will grab her arm and give it a squeeze before he slips past her and on to the others. Wether he is trying to scare them or just on them is anyone's guess but he doesn't seem to be stoping them from raising in the water.

Wakua freezes as she feels the squeeze on her arm and she looks around to see what it is. She sees that it's Kalen who's swimming around and she takes a deep breath as she slowly continues to swim up letting the bubbles she breathes out race to the surface before her.

The others will have all surfaced by now Kalen is sitting there floating once all four of them are there he will lift a vest that has weights in it and put it on. "this is to make sure we are all under the same conditions. The other part of search and rescue is the rescue. in this part we swim keeping the tanks out of the water to simulate pulling a person."

Wakua moves so that she can keep her tank out of the water and she starts to tread water as she waits for the others to do the same. She's been practicing this as she's been swimming and reading water with one of those weighed vests above her head.

Kalen will start the slow but steady trek back to the dock, he moves slower than the others so he can watch them get there. Unfortunately this means he is working twice as hard but it doesn't seem to bother him that bad. The other three students get back to the dock with out incident or mess up.

Wakua gets back to the dock without any incident. She continues to keep the tank out of the water as she looks back at Kalen to make sure that he's still with them.

Kalen is there and grins as the others wait for instructions he will move over and toss his vest up first before saying "Good Job class, stow your gear and head back in to change you have written exams to take before the noon meal." he will float there with Atlas next to him as he watches his students pack up the equipment.

Wakua nods to Kalen, "Thank you Journeyman Kalen." She says as she goes to pack away the gear and grab her things so she can go in and take the written exam.

Kalen grins and nods to Wakua as her classmates are already far ahead of her he will call to her saying "Great job today Apprentice your work shows all the extra effort you are doing. Keep it up!" he gives her the thumbs up before going back to floating so she can continue on her new path as a dolphineer.

Wakua finishes putting away her gear and she nods politely to Kalen, "Thank you Journeyman Kalen. I'll do my best." She says as she gets her stuff and heads out to take that test.
